19th March 2007: Forum taken down

Hi all. Hope ye all had a good Paddy's day. I'm afraid I've finally had to take down the forum. Despite my best efforts to keep the spam at bay, there's just no stopping it. Every day the forum was overwhelmed with very nasty and innapropriate content. I wanted the forum to be a safe and welcoming place for musicians of all ages to talk about their music. However, given the sheer quantity and the graphic nature of the spam that was coming in, I believe it would be irresponsible of me to allow it to continue.

I'd like to apologise to all of the genuine people who have used the forum to date. It's a shame that the acts of a few unscrupulous individuals can ruin a good idea for everyone.

I'm going to see if I can come up with a new way of implementing a forum. Something that the automated spam programs won't know about. This might take a while. In the meantime, if anyone has anything they'd like posted, email me at info@sessionnetwork.com and I'll put it up here on the front page.

Yours in music,

JD

1st September 2006: Adding some Links

I've started adding some links to other sites of interest. They're broken down into categories to make it easier to find what you're after. You can get to them using the Links section on the bar at the left. I'm still in the process of populating the lists, so if there are any sites that you think should be listed here, give me a shout and I'll add them in.

Oh, one other thing. Don't forget to head on over to the forum for more up to date discussions and chat. This page here is really just for occasional announcements. The forum is where all the action is!

Yours in music,

JD

16th May 2006: The Session Finder is up!

Hi folks. I've finally gotten around to putting up a "session finder". You'll notice the new "Find Sessions" links along the top and side bars. If you click this link, you'll see a small form asking you for the music style and the county you're looking for. I know, I should probably have made "Traditional / Folk" the default here (because probably most sessions in Ireland are trad), but I wanted to keep it equally open for anyone who would like to add a Blues/Jazz/Rock session etc. Anyway, running that search will display a list of all of the sessions in that county of that music style. Well, the ones we know about anyway - you get the idea.

The "Find Sessions" page also has a little button which allows you to add a session. Guys, I can't personally chase down every session in the country, so I need you to add any sessions that you know about. Try to add as much info in the "Comments" section as is useful for other musicians (or for tourists who are looking for a session). Just one thing - please have a look through the list first to make sure the session you're about to add hasn't already been added by someone else.

Once again, any comments or suggestions, please email me at info@sessionnetwork.com, or alternatively, post a message in the forum.

Yours in music,

JD

7th May 2006: New features on the way

Someone suggested that this site would be an ideal place to list all of the informal sessions around the country. I thought it was a great idea, so I'm going to start writing an addition to the site which will allow all of you guys to add sessions that you know of. I'm expecting this to be ready in a couple of weeks, so start compiling your session list!

As I said before, this is a community-based website. It's up to you to help make it great. If you know of anything you'd like to have on the site, please let me know. Also, if there is any news or upcoming events that you would like to see posted here, just send me an email at info@sessionnetwork.com.

Yours in music,

JD

5th Mar 2006: The Forum is up!

The SessionNetwork forum has now been set up. You can use it to discuss topics, ask questions and generally chat to and get to know other musicians. Controversial topics and rants welcome, but keep it clean!

The forum moderators are JD Nolan (me!), nickname jdnolan, and Margaret Ryan, nickname Ms Ryan. Yeah, I know, our imagination knows no bounds... Our job is the general maintenance of the forum, and where possible, to keep any abusive topics off the forum.

You can access the forum by clicking on the "Visit Forum" links on the top and left of the page. To post topics or reply to posts, you will need to register as a forum user. You can do this by visiting the forum and clicking "Register" at the top of the page. You then just fill out a form to create your account. If there are some questions on the registration form that you don't understand (such as date format), don't worry - they default to the right answer. That's it then! Just remember to log in so that you can post topics!

The FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) is also up. Take a look at it and see if there's anything I need to add to it.

Yours in music,

JD

23rd Feb 2006: SessionNetwork.com is launched!

Hi folks! As some of you know, I've just got back from a trip to Austria, so I've been able to do a bit more work on the site this evening. I'm delighted to see that so many people have signed up already! It's very encouraging and gives me a sense that I'm on the right track with this idea.

I've jazzed up the logo a bit, and fixed a couple of small bugs. Next on the agenda is the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). I've got some good questions from some of you, so I'll put those up and any others I might think of - that way the FAQ can be a guide of sorts.

The front page on this site (where you're reading right now) is where I'll post any news or announcements. If any of you have got anything you want me to post, feel free to send it on to me at info@sessionnetwork.com. I'm also planning of building a forum to go with the site to allow you all to converse more freely.

That's it for now. I'll keep you posted on the progress!

Yours in music,

JD
